Netflix released the official trailer for When they see us, Ava DuVernay's four-part mini-series, which tells the story of Central Park's Five Young Black Men, wrongfully convicted in New York for rape and murder in 1989.
According to Netflix, the series will cover the full 25 years between the murder of Trisha Meili on April 19, 1989 and the 2014 settlement between New York and the five men – Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana and Korey Wise – who has spent years in prison for crimes that they did not commit.
The Hollywood Reporter note that the series will present the events from the point of view of these five young men. And, in the clip above, you'll even get a glimpse of the infamous full-page ad. taken by Donald Trump in May 1989, calling for the execution of the five boys.
DuVernay has co-written and directed the series, which features an exceptional cast, including Michael K. Williams, Joshua Jackson, Niecy Nash, Framke Janssen and Felicity Huffman. But if we believe the trailer, the five young actors who play the main characters here will be the stars of the series and we will break the heart in a million pieces.
When they see us arrives on Netflix on May 31, 2019.
