Playing on a touch screen is one of my least favorite things to do. One-handed games that are perfect for a phone are not a problem, but tapping and sliding into games with complex control schemes can be frustrating.
The black shark 2, a A gaming phone made by Xiaomi was released in China earlier this year, reduce these frictions with its MagicTouch feature. It relies on the phone's pressure-sensitive screen to allow you to reassign the controls to a more convenient location on the screen. It works the same way as 3D Touch on the iPhone, by changing the screen response depending on the force with which you tap it, except that it's more useful. MagicTouch can be activated in the game by scanning from the upper right corner of the screen when playing in landscape mode (portrait mode games, such as Pokemon Go, are not supported). Its interface asks you to choose the two button mappings that you want to modify and where do you want them to live on the screen. Obviously, how you choose to customize, it's up to you to decide, but the idea here is to reduce, if not eliminate, the delicate movements of the fingers during the game.
PUBG on mobile is a great example on which to focus. It is already designed with huge customization control, allowing players to change the location of each button, as well as their size and transparency. Where MagicTouch completes it, it allowed me to create two multifunction buttons, made possible through the phone's touch screen.
Originally PUBGThe S controls place the "Sprint" button at the point where your finger naturally rests to move the character. I would rather swing my avatar left and right to avoid the shots, while managing the inventory on the right side of the screen. This usually involves pressing the "Inventory" button located in the lower corner of the screen. MagicTouch allows me to create a secondary action just above the "Sprint" button. When I press hard enough on the screen, the inventory opens on the right side without lifting a finger.
MagicTouch allows you to customize a button on the right side as well, and for PUBGI knew exactly what I wanted to change. You can move the camera, if you are in sight at the third or first person, by moving your finger in the right half of the screen. That's fine, but I do not want to lift that finger to find the "Fire" button when I come across another player. So, I dismiss the MagicTouch button from that part of the screen that shoots with my weapon when I press hard enough. It feels like it's the way the game is meant to be played.
MagicTouch is not limited to PUBG. You can use it on any landscape-oriented game with controls you want to customize and developers should not do anything special to their games to activate it. However, because of its dependence on the pressure sensitive screen of Black Shark 2, it is limited to just this phone. Most popular Android phones do not have a screen that supports something like this, it would not work even if this software was marketed on the Google Play Store. To try the feature yourself, you will have to buy the phone.
You can get it for $ 599.99 at Amazonand it's not overly expensive for a phone with specs such as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, the latest processor available in 2019, Android flagship phones. It has 8 GB of RAM and a built-in fingerprint sensor. OnePlus 7 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S10 in terms of hardware functionality.
As cool as the MagicTouch feature, the Black Shark 2 is not the best choice if you live in the United States. The phone only works with GSM operators, such as AT & T and T-Mobile; Verizon and Sprint will not work. And, there is no warranty support in the United States.
The Black Shark 2 runs on Android 9 Foot, and it is free of bloat, which is a good thing. Surprisingly, the interface is largely "stored" and this is not the MIUI interface of Xiaomi (Black Shark's parent company). But Xiaomi has failed to provide security updates on a regular basis. At the time of publication, it's about the security patch of February 2019.
If these problems have not deterred you, its design could be. Black Shark 2 is designed for games, and although it's not to have to require screaming glances, this phone is full of material division details. A bright green chamfered edge circles the phone and the back of the Black Shark 2 looks like a brightly colored sports car. Google Pixel phones are generally criticized for their two-color design, but Xiaomi's metal and glass mix is really Something. It even has a bright logo on the back and an illuminated band on the side – almost mandatory inclusions for everything sold to players.
Pressure sensitive displays are usually a gadget. On iPhones, 3D Touch iOS is useful on paper, although Apple has failed to justify its existence. Some experienced users may benefit because it allows users to do more with less tapping, but most people probably do not even know it exists.
The application of this type of technology by Black Shark is still essentially a gadget. Its usefulness varies according to the games you like to play and you will not use it much. But personally, it was revealing. Instead of connecting to Twitter every few minutes, for want of anything better on my phone, I actually felt the rare appeal of playing a mobile game.
I enjoy more when I play with MagicTouch. I did not expect much, but now I do not want to play a mobile game without this one.
