When wired examined the first Moto G In 2013, we said that this signaled the "end of specifications". In a way, that was it. During the last years, affordable Android phones have blossomed in a respectable and popular corner of the smartphone garden. The flagship phones such as the Galaxy S10 are still selling in the millions, but they have had to grow and develop more than ever to attract eyes when they sit next to phones like the Moto G in the stores.
Last year Moto G6 Was a good value for $ 250, but his camera was molasses and the menus would get jerky if you were surprised. Motorola sells three G phones for 2019: the standard Moto G7, a slightly suspended Moto G7 Power that lasts more than two days, and a Moto G7 super budget. I've spent several weeks testing the three G's and I'm impressed by the whole range. Moto G7 devices are not without flaws, but they feel as fast and useful as the mid-range phones ($ 400 – $ 500) last year. And it's huge.
I went from $ 1,000 Galaxy S10 Plus Moto G7 when I started the exam, and it was not so difficult. On paper, the G7 would be jostled by the S10 in almost all metrics, and the S10 is definitely a better phone. But apart from a few moments where I wanted to have a better camera or when I wanted Fortnite with the best settings, it did not make much difference.
Prepare yourselves. Figures are coming
The Moto G7 standard model features a 6.2-inch edge-to-edge HD display (19: 9 aspect ratio) with a small notch for the selfie camera. There is a fingerprint sensor on the back. The power and volume buttons are in the same place, on the right side: they are quite easy to find and use in the dark. The phone looks like a glass Gorilla Glass sandwich and metal like any other phone. in 2019. Unlike some of the more expensive sandwiches, this one has a headphone jack and a microSD card slot.
Inside, each version of the Moto G7 is equipped with a moderate Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 processor and runs under a direct version of the Android 9 Pie operating system, the last and the greatest from Google. There are some differences beyond, so I'm going to expose them here.
Moto G7 ($ 300): It has the best screen of the group (described above), you eat with 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage for applications and photos, and a dual camera configuration of 12 and 5 megapixel camera. # 39; s back. He has a 3000mAh battery that would have been left in the tank at the end of the day. In terms of performance, it's a cut above the other G7s.
Moto G7 Power ($ 250): It has 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 7.2-inch 720p screen with a larger notch that looks a bit like the pixel in games and when taking pictures, and d & rsquo; Only one 12 megapixel camera at the back. a 5000mAh battery that makes the phone bigger than a millimeter (honestly, not so bad) and gives it enough battery so that I usually end the day with 65-80%. This battery can last several days. If you are not a great player or a great user of apps / games, the benefits of the battery are worth it.
Moto G7 Play ($ 200): You will sacrifice the most with this model. It can bog up more than others. It comes with 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and also has a smaller 5.7-inch 720p screen with the larger notch (iPhone size). I have a bit like that that he has a cheaper, less crackable plastic back, but you can not. My wife also appreciated the fact that it was smaller and easier to hold. Like the G7 Power, games like Modern Combat 5 and PUBG does not seem as good on this phone, but they run.
Like the standard G7, each model has a headphone jack and MicroSD Slot. The phone calls are typical although the speaker's audio is mono for all models; nothing will sound better than a phone call, so you'll want to use headphones. I have not encountered any strange reception problem with any model. They are also all "water repellent", and not waterproof. Therefore, keep them away from liquids as best you can, and none of the models have Bluetooth 5, which makes it easier for some wireless headsets to connect.
Concert, museum and baby
The Moto G7's 12-megapixel dual rear camera featured some tough tasks. I took it with me to meet the new baby of my friends, during a trip to the Isabella Stewart Gartner Museum, and up to Detroit Rock City for a KISS concert. KISS concerts have more pyrotechnics, waterfalls and special effects than many Hollywood blockbusters, so it's almost cruel, but it's life.
Overall, the G7 has done much better than I thought. Our 8-megapixel baby selfies went really well and I got some nice pictures of the museum. For KISS (do not hit them until you've seen them live), the camera struggled to balance their black-and-silver outfits looking like extraterrestrials to the glittering lights of the scene. Many blows appeared blurry or smothered. The photos above are my favorites. The G7 seemed to have a hard time capturing Paul Stanley while he was heading for a rotating platform in the middle of the arena, then singing for all those who were bleeding from the nose. The lights were bright and he never stopped moving. When singers did not spin or fly and explosions did not happen, it was rare for the G7 to take pictures that stood out better than many of my previous concert photos. The photos of my wife on the iPhone X are much clearer than all of mine, so it's what an additional $ 700 will buy you.
Motorola's built-in gestures were also helpful during the concert. I've twisted the phone a few times to open the camera, and when all the fans in the arena have tried to trigger their flashes during a big ballad ("Beth"), all that I had to do was shake the G7 in a hash movement and my flashlight turned on and off.
The Moto G7 is the best affordable phone this year. It's fast and the camera does the work. Like all glass phones, I would like it not to be so fragile and slippery (buy a case), but at least if it breaks, you will only have a few hundred dollars left, not a thousand. And if you do not need fewer pixels on your screen, an even lighter build and less file storage onboard, the Moto G7 Power can last up to three days between two refills. No matter what you choose, just know that the future, by paying the credit card bills, will probably thank you.
